As a leader in our industry, RSC Equipment Rental believes we
have a responsibility to be innovative. This benefits our customers by being
more reliable, offering greater availability and providing superior service.
For years our innovative customer driven initiatives have been investments that
pay off huge benefits in efficiency, customer service, reliability and
availability, while positively impacting the environment and saving significant
expenses. As part of our best practices, we've invested heavily in the
technology and processes to facilitate the reduction of raw materials to do
business and reduce fuel consumption to improve efficiencies. Whether big or
small, national or local, every step we take in this process is a positive one.
Improving the Environment and Bottom Line:
Six Company Initiatives
Air Quality...proper maintenance and a modern fleet means that
many of our construction equipment emits up to 50% fewer fossil emissions than
comparable models sold as recently as 2000.
Energy and Fuel Efficiency...our more than 98% currency on
manufacturer suggested preventative maintenance helps ensure that all of our
equipment operates at peak efficiency.
Paper Reduction...with a highly personalized and automated order,
delivery and billing system, RSC Online® and RSC e-Pay™ have been able to
significantly reduce the amount of paperwork (and paper) required to keep ours,
and our customer's businesses moving.
Raw Material Reduction...to just name a few, by implementing our
refurbishment program back in 2001, our environmentally safe parts washers in
2003, and beginning the evaluation of solid tires in 2005 with full roll out on
all new reach forklifts in 2008, RSC has already reduced CO2 emissions
by more than 26 million tons. We anticipate we will have saved more than 100
million dollars by the implementation of these and other programs that focus on
the needs of our customers while positively impacting the environment.
Recycling and Recycled Content...our national account product
offerings allow for the greater purchasing of recycled-content materials.
Branches are also encouraged to recycle scrap metal, paper, plastic, used
batteries, oil, pallets and cardboard as appropriate.
Research and Development...we have a dedicated "Innovations
Group" evaluating the real-world impact and practicality of integrating
advances such as satellites, the use of biofuels in our fleet and our 5S
program, an employee-led process that results in a cleaner branch appearance,
better shop and equipment flow, and in many cases, reduced waste.

By adopting environmentally friendly processes as our best practices RSC
provides innovative ways to pass on the savings to our customer and run our
business better.
Putting Words into Action:
Think Globally, Act Locally
RSC has a dedicated team of cross functional employees who are focused on
finding ways to Empower People to Cultivate Sustainability. At RSC we encourage
our employees to find ways to make "green" a part of their everyday lives. With
a sense of enthusiasm, ownership and zeal, many of our employees are
demonstrating that improving our business and the environment go hand-in-hand.
Some of these real-world examples include:
Example 1:
RSC Branch # 669 in Garland, Texas developed a recycling and energy reduction
plan for its store. By doing things like purchasing recycled-content products
and supplies, installing recycling containers for paper, plastic and cardboard,
installing automatic motion light switches and recycling all scrap metal and
pallets, the store has made a difference by significantly reducing its carbon
footprint while also saving more than $11,000 in less than a year.
Example 2:

RSC Branch # 404 in Greeley, Colorado,
implemented a green delivery and pick-up strategy in order to reduce down time,
lower fuel costs and cut emissions when working on sites in rural locations
close to 200 miles from the closest RSC store. Service mechanics worked with
dispatchers and drivers to fully load semi-trucks a few times a week as they
were heading out to the site, allowing them to pick-up or deliver more
equipment each time. By making less frequent but more efficient trips to the
jobsite they were able cut fuel costs and lower emissions, while also
streamlining the maintenance and overall rental process. This also prompted the
entire team to come together to continue to plan additional ways to be green
and efficient.
